Missing This

I miss this sweet, little blog, my place for expression, unloading, and reflecting on life.  We have a lot of life going on right now, so I don't know if I'll be back any time soon, but I hope I can be.

Just as an update, here is a recent pic of me, MM, and Bunny.

Passing On Perfection

As a Mommy, and sometime blogger, I find it very easy to get trapped in a pit of pursuing perfection.  It's hard to take in my favorite blogs, all "run and maintained" by Mommy bloggers when it seems they have everything together.  You know the ones.  They have a beautiful life in a beautiful house with beautiful children and wonderful female friendships.  They get their kids out of the house for weekly special activities, they are pros at designing and executing "Sensory Bins".  They post wholesome, homemade recipes and you assume they eat like that 24/7.  While their kids are obviously imperfect little creatures, you never read of it on the blog, unless it's in an endearing manner that sugarcoats any negative situation.  They even seem to come out of grief, personal tragedy, and anything the slightest bit trying unscathed and whole.

And then it hits you.

That's just what they BLOG about.  Who in the world blogs the real story 100% of the time?  I think I try to, but, let's face it; it is human nature to only put our best foot forward, to try to make the best impression we can as often as we can.  Not to mention, that a lot of the big "Mommy" blogs aren't just about a Mom sharing her life, they're also about generating income and building a brand.  Don't believe me?  Take a look at your favorite blog.  One that you maybe idolize a bit.  The cute layout, the book deal in the works, the promotional posts, the advertisements.  All indications that sometimes, you may not be getting the whole story.  If you take all that away, and strip the blog down to it's barest essentials, would the content be the same?  Maybe.  Maybe not.  Not that I begrudge any of these women the success they are experiencing, but I have to remind myself to put it all into perspective.

Keep it real.

Pass up on perfection.

This blog is, first and foremost, for ME.  I write what I can when I can because it is something I love doing.  I do not want to look back on my posts and see a picture that is only filled with perfection.  Because you know what, perfection leaves no room for improvement.  Perfection does not refine a soul, build character, or really exist.  Thank God I am imperfect and have room to grow.

My house will be lived in and comfortable, and that is perfect for us, but it will never be in a magazine.  I will try to get Bunny out of the house and experience life as much as possible, but when things like time and money interfere, I will do my best to give her as many of those experiences from home as I can.  I will cook what I know how to cook and just be proud that my family gathers around the dinner table to eat food I prepared every night of the week (besides our Friday Night Family Night meals, but that's another post!).  And I'm working on those Sensory Bins.  Just yesterday, I let go of some of my "neat-freak" tendencies and let Bunny play on the floor with a big bowl of water while I cooked lunch.  Was it a mess?  Of course.  Was it wonderful to hear her squeal and giggle while she splashed?  Obviously.  Did I grumble a bit when it was time for lunch and I had to wipe the soaked floor, put away the play containers, change her soaking wet diaper and clothes, and then do a wet load of laundry?  Well, yeah, I did.

I will let messes happen in my house.  I will fail.  I will do my best to post about it with honesty.  And, one day, when Bunny is old enough to maybe look her Mom's blog up and read a post or two, I hope she will recognize the honesty, the growth, and the fact that an imperfect life is truly a beautiful life.

Where Are They Now?

If you're still checking to see if I've been blogging, you're probably wondering that very thing, "Where are they now?".  Well first, I must apologize for keeping you all out of the loop.  It has been over a month since my last post and that was just a "Wordless Wednesday" post at that.  Sorry.

MM, Bunny, and I, plus the doggage, of course, are finally living under one roof in the same city again.  We were blessed beyond measure to have free, comfortable (well, for Bunny and I) places to stay, but that 3 months of living apart was horrible.  We found our solace in the fact that we knew it wasn't permanent and also in knowing that we had it EASY compared to our brave military families out there.

So, how did it all happen?  Well, the Monday after we closed on our house in West Texas, Bunny and I drove straight to our hotel in East Texas for a bit of house-hunting.  We knew that it would be difficult to find and secure a house in the short amount of time we had to do so that week, but what do you know, God came through as He always has.  He blessed us with the perfect little house for the five of us.  We actually have over 400 sq. ft. more than we did in our old house and that's not including the two-car garage.  (All we had before was a carport.)  It really is the ideal home for us and you would hardly believe how peaceful and quiet our neighborhood is.

We have been there just over two weeks and are settling into a family routine.  I just love the sound of our house humming along.  While we still have a few non-essential boxes to unpack and lots of pictures to hang, it definitely feels like home and we are so grateful that it was available for us.  Not to mention the relief that renting a home has brought us since we don't have to worry about all of the responsibilities of home-ownership.

MM loves his job as much today as he did when he started 3 1/2 months ago.  It keeps him busy and is a fun challenge for him.  It is a great joy to me to see him so much happier with his work.  Bunny is ecstatic to be able to see her Daddy every night again.  While I know she loved it at Papaw's and Mimi's, she is so much more calm and content when her Daddy is around.  I am "getting there".  Slow, but sure.  I honestly do love our location and proximity to all kinds of things we didn't have out in the boonies of West Texas, but my anxious mind and worry-wart nature have been in full throttle since the day we signed the lease.  Lots of prayer, support from MM, and soothing breaths seems to really be helping and I'm becoming more confident in our situation every day.

So that's where we are now.  I don't know when/if I'll be back, but I do miss my little blog, even if nobody ever reads it besides MM and my Mom.  (Hi, Mom!)  I'm hoping once we settle in and really establish a routine that there will be time for me to sit down, even if it's just once a week, and get all the words that live inside my head out.  Until then, God Bless, and thank you for reading!

The Final Countdown

The Star family can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and we are moving forward!!  If all goes as planned, we will close on the sale of our house out in West Texas by the end of this week, and be moving on to our new life in East Texas by mid-April.  It has been a rollercoaster ride getting through the transition between West and East, but we can finally see the end.

One day, I'm going to look back on these days and smile with fond memories, but right this moment, I hate that we are 2+ months into being apart.  By the time we move, we will have been separated for 3 1/2 months.  I know how fortunate we are that we have only been apart that long, but in the moment, it can sometimes feel like an eternity.

So, how have we managed?  Well, Bunny and I have been living quite a comfy, cozy life thanks to my parents' hospitality and their generous house.  We share our own bedroom and bathroom on the complete opposite side from my parents' room, so we have as much privacy as we possibly can while living under someone else's roof.  For the most part, it is much like our life in West Texas during the day, but every night brings lots of love and help from Papaw & Mimi.  There is also a lot more to do here including the park, a safe neighborhood to walk in, and LOTS of shopping.  The only thing that has been missing from the equation is my MM and Bunny's Da-Da.

MM moved on up to our new city to start his job and he really, really loves what he's doing.  By the grace of God he was given a free place to live until we get a house up there.  Unfortunately, that free place is a small travel-trailer on the property his office is on and it doesn't have hot water or anything besides a microwave to cook with.  He is getting by, though, and putting his best foot forward for the sake of our family and his new job.  He will be rewarded with a lot of hot, home-cooked meals and as many hot showers a day as he wants when Bunny and I finally get up there.

After closing this week, we still have the small task of finding and securing a home for us to live in, but we aren't buying right now, so all we need to do is get through the rental process rather than waiting for offers to be accepted, inspections, closing, and etc.  Our plan is to move in to our new place in mid-April and I cannot wait to have our own space, use our own stuff, and snuggle in with MM every single night.  I imagine that our first month or two in our new home will be very quiet and lazy as we try to get settled in and get a rhythm going.

That's it for us right now.  To be honest, life is a bit of a blur as we just try to keep busy so that the days pass by quickly.  I'm perfectly fine where we are right now because I know that we are all safe and taken care of, but I am also counting the days until we are all living under one roof again.  We have 33 days to go, just in case you're wondering.

Priorities

I live in fear of the perfect blog post.  I haven't been here since July 30 for one reason and one reason only; time.  I never feel like I have the time to make even a cogent blog post, much less one that is enjoyable to read.  I've decided now that none of that matters.  I will even go so far as to say that a post or two now and then may not be edited before I hit "Publish".  I just don't care.  I have a beautiful life and it needs to be recorded.  And blogging is my favorite way to do it.

What's going on right now?  Well, there's this:

My Bunny, my beautiful little ball of awesomeness and energy and everything good that ever was is a whopping year old now!  Can you believe it?  She is our toddling toddler!!

I must sound like a broken record to MM because I swear I say the same things every night, "Can you believe how much we love her?!", "I love her so much!", "Isn't she SO much fun?!?!", and my personal favorite, "Look at her", because EVERYTHING she does is amazing to me and I am afraid to miss her next goofy face, big milestone, or first words.  She is awesome.  I praise God that my job in life is to stay at home and raise this little.  Even on our worst days, (there was one particular day/night last week that was horrendous on account of a double-ear infection and teething), I have so much fun just being Mommy.

Because of her, and MM, and the fact that I have been "retired" for 10+ weeks without much progress on anything, I've decided my life needs to be prioritized.  Every Mama has multiple facets of her life that each need a bit of attention to maintain balance.  Unfortunately for most of us, though, something always slips through the cracks.  I'm tired of doing that to myself and feeling guilty, bitter, or just plain mad at the end of  a week because I didn't devote enough time to this or that part of my life.

How do I propose to fix this problem?  A list, of course!  I listed the ten most important things in my life in order of importance to me and have slowly been working through ways to ensure that each item receives attention.  Here's my list:

  1. My relationship with God
  2. My relationship with MM
  3. My relationship with and raising of Bunny
  4. Making/enjoying time for me
  5. Preparing good, homemade food for my family
  6. Creating and maintaining an organized house
  7. Building up outside relationships
  8. Getting and staying healthy
  9. Hosting others in our home
  10. Having a clean house
That is my list as of this moment.  Some of the items are probably obvious to you, some maybe not so much.  There are two things I know about this whole process: 1) I will never be able to PERFECTLY balance my priorities; I'm not looking for perfection, but attention - I want to make sure I at least attend to each item on a weekly basis, 2) this list will evolve as I grow; there are things that are missing from this list that I do want in my life, but I'm just not ready to add those on, yet.

I have already started paying a little more attention to each item on this list and that's without a conscious daily effort.  Just knowing the list exists makes me more aware.  As a matter of fact, typing this blog takes care of a little #4 time as blogging is so cathartic for me!

My hope is that I will come back soon to touch base on each priority I have made for myself.  Getting it down on "paper", especially for others to see, really helps me evaluate and organize my thoughts and ideas and really gets the ball rolling for me.

What about you?  How do you prioritize your life?

God bless and thanks for reading!

Bath Towels and Baby Bottles

Who knew that having a little Bunny could be so much fun? I swear she's the most adorable kid I've ever seen. I miss her while I'm at work, I miss her while I'm pumping and MM is holding her on the couch (in the same room, mind you), and I miss her while she's sleeping. It definitely helps that God has blessed us with such a good-natured little girl.

Her two-month birthday was Wednesday and her 9-week birthday is today and she is already sleeping 8 hours through most nights. We (well, MM, since I already have to get up to pump) only have to get up in the middle of the night about twice a week to change and feed her and she usually falls back to sleep pretty quickly. She eats well, whether from the breast or the bottle, and seemingly regardless of who is feeding her, and is gaining and growing healthfully. She is such a happy baby and rarely fusses unless something is really bothering her. Her happiest times seem to be right after she has been fed after a nap (what a life she lives). She always has a huge grin for MM and I then. She is still exclusively fed breast milk and I plan on keeping it that way until she's at least 6 months old. (Well, as far as milk goes. We will add in solids when she's showing that she's ready.)

We seem to have a really good schedule going during the week and all 3 of us typically make it to our respective destinations on time. I hate dropping her off at daycare every morning, but we love her provider and all of the other little ones that she watches. I get anxious for 5:00 p.m. to roll around so that I can go pick her up and MM waits anxiously for us to get home.

All in all, I can honestly say that we are loving life right now. We're a little tired, sure, and the house is a mess and don't even ask me about the nutritional content of our meals lately, but it is still pure bliss. Every evening includes playtime and cuddles with my two favorite people on the planet and I couldn't ask for more!

And here's a pic of a very proud Daddy after giving Bunny her bath.

Presenting: the cutest kid in my world wrapped up in her bath towel. Would ya look at those cheeks?!

Catching Up

Phew! I can't believe how the time flies. Can you believe that our Bunny is due in 9 weeks and 5 days?! I can't!

So much has happened in the last two weeks that seems exciting to me, but would probably be super-boring to anyone else, so I'll give you the short version.

1. Vacation was a blast! I love my family and love that we all get along and have similar interests that allow us to hang out for a whole week without getting tired of each other.

2. There's nothing like being with a close-knit family to remind you that not all families are like ours and that is a sad realization. I pray for all of those from broken and hurting homes much more when I realize how fortunate I am. My heart breaks for everyone who is hurting due to their family relationships.

3. MM and I had a couples' massage on vacation. It was amazing. And will be something we will do again in the future. (I'm hoping sooner rather than later.)

4. 3D ultrasounds are the bomb-diggity. Did you see these pictures?! I'm still in awe every time I see Bunny's sweet face!

5. I'm starting to feel that nesting instinct kick in, but I'm so tired that I'm barely getting anything done. I will hopefully be back on a schedule after this weekend and will prepare in earnest for Bunny's arrival.

6. I seriously miss meeting with God. I need some Jesus and need to get back to the Word. How am I supposed to raise a Godly child if I can't meet with Him and know what He wants me to teach her? I can't.

7. I also miss swimming. Especially now. Walking is my exercise of necessity right now, but my belly is so heavy I feel like I'm going to tip over. What I wouldn't give right now for a private pool to use!

8. The 30-Day Challenge is going well. Again, it's easy to be nice to your husband when he's such a loving, caring man. I think I'll need to do the challenge again after Bunny is born. That may put things in a bit more perspective than when MM is pampering me all the time.

9. We have ONE MORE TRIP out of town and then we are DONE until Bunny has been out of my womb for a few months. I love traveling, but it wears me out. Thank goodness MM is doing most of the driving these days.

10. I am both excited and nervous about Saturday. I can't wait to see some cherished family and friends, but being the center of attention is causing me no small amount of anxiety. I'm sure I will look back on Saturday with fondness when all is said and done, though.

Well, that's it. My life right now in a nutshell. I will try to get back to my regularly scheduled posting, but that all depends on my energy level and free time. I do promise that I will at least post in 10 - 12 weeks to introduce Bunny to the world. Other than that, I promise nothing! ;)

Sadly, these are the only photos MM and I took our ENTIRE vacation. Oh well, at least we have something to remember the trip by!

To Be or To Blog...That is THE Question

I've noticed a trend among my blogging pals that I think most people can relate to; when life is busy, you don't blog. Conversely, when life isn't busy, you blog. I'm the perfect example of this paradigm.

The last time I blogged was in August (!), and we've been super-swamped with things since then. I've been out of town for another course for work and MM's been out of town for deer surveys for work. We've spent a weekend installing some new interior doors. The little bit of time we have had in between has been spent barely keeping our house in order and doing a bit of relaxing. I haven't picked up a single piece of reading material that wasn't work-related and the only tv I've watched was the Cowboys game yesterday. In a nutshell, we're going CRAZAY!!

MM and I just aren't used to being so involved and it always seems to happen this time of year. We always end up traveling and entertaining more than we thought we would and we turn around one day and the fall is gone and it's time for winter! We've got this week and a free weekend, then MM is gone for a bit, relatives come twice in the month of October to visit, I go out of town for another week in October, then November rolls around and the holiday traveling starts. I'm tellin' ya, Autumn is my favorite season of all, but sometimes I can't wait for it to be over so that I can breathe.

On top of that, I've decided to spend the last few months of my twenties focusing on 6 key areas of my life that need improvement. To be honest, they are all areas that I will probably always have to work on, but I have to start somewhere!

The 6 areas are:

1. Spiritual - my personal relationship with God, my church attendance, and my quiet time.
2. Emotional - my relationship with MM, building strong friendships outside of my family, and controlling my emotions through methods other than eating.
3. Intellectual - read more, research what I want to know when I want to know it!
4. Physical - do everything I can to become more healthy, learn to LOVE me, get heart-healthy.
5. Professional - become indispensable at work, network within my field, improve my work ethic.
6. Fiscal - discover our perfect balance between "gazelle intensity" and enjoying our life now, minimize our weaknesses to reduce our risk of identity theft, fraud, etc.

I know that this is a lot for me to work on at one time, but I truly feel that they all snowball into one another. I'm relying on God to help me get my priorities straight because it is just plain human to be selfish instead. I want to build a lasting legacy for my (hopefully) future children and there's no better time than the present to start. I'm not expecting to be a perfect person on my 30th birthday next year, but I am expecting to be able to see noticeable improvements in my life.

That being said, I love blogging, but I love being busy even more. It means we're doing more and interacting with people for a change. Sometimes it makes me want to rip my hair out, but for the most part, it is a welcome change. Therefore, I will blog when a boring day presents itself. If I'm not here for a while, just remember that I'm out there living my life and will be back when it all slows down. I hope it won't...

Day...Wait, WHAT?!

Being back to blogging means that I'm back to my routine and I cannot thank God enough for that. My absence had to do in large part to this:

That's my little seester, a little drugged up, but nonetheless stunning, after I surprised her the evening of her ACL reconstruction surgery. Her surgery was two weeks ago on Wednesday and I wasn't planning on being there, but an episode for seester during pre-op and my dad being admitted to the hospital for chest pains necessitated a quick trip back home.

Both seester and dad are doing great now, for those wondering. It was God's providence that I was there, because I was able to help my mom out with taking turns with the two of them while they were in the hospital, help seester get settled in at our grandparents' house, and help my other seester get a good deal of their stuff moved into my other grandparents' house and a storage unit. (With the help of two big, burly, wonderful guys that care a lot about my seesters.) My big seester is an amazing woman who handled a move for two people single-handedly the weekend before she started her new job. Isn't she awesome?!

Then, on Sunday, it was up the road to Austin to spend the week in a class for work. It was lots of fun, but lots of work as it was a tough class, so I accessed Facebook from my phone, but that was the extent of my internet usage! I went with two of my kooky coworkers and their presence and ability to laugh at everything and enjoy life, in spite of the hard class and test, really lifted my spirits. Thanks to Denise and Laura! I had so much fun with you!!

I thank God that he was able to get me safely to and through all of this, and that He set up my life so that I was free to be there with my family. I may not have pictures to document every day during the past few weeks, but I have many strong memories, some trying, but most wonderful, that I'll carry with me forever.

My prayer now is that God will continue to shake up my life because that's when I know He's really working in and through me! I will not be content to be content any more!

Moving Forward

I've been missing from here for a while. I'm prone to prolonged blogging absences, so that's probably no surprise. The reason for my absence though, is one that took everyone close to us by surprise.

On May 21, 2010, MM's ex-step-sister, Crystal, was hit head-on by a drunk driver as she was headed out to be the designated driver for a friend. As soon as we heard about it, I drove up to the hospital to check on her. It was several days of waiting and praying, and on Wednesday, MM & I went back to check on her for the last time before we left to watch her little bro graduate high school. When we left, we were all in high spirits and looking forward to the future and her recovery. The neurologists felt fairly confident that it was no longer a life-threatening injury.

On Thursday, May 27, we headed down the road to Corpus Christi. Once we got there, we received a phone call from her mother at the hospital that she had taken a severe downturn. At 9:10 a.m. on Friday, we received confirmation that Crystal was gone.

It was shocking and hard to deal with. There were many of us that had left the hospital for various reasons and wondered if our absences left her vulnerable. I think we're all at peace with that now, but it was a hard emotion to shake.

At first, the days blurred together and we all clung to each other. Then we started to think clearly again. Her viewing was the following Thursday and I received the blessed confirmation that Crystal was resting in our Father's arms. Crystal was a born-again Christian. Praise Jesus! Crystal and I had spoken about it before, after MM was baptized, but to see her mother smiling and confirming it for me was SUCH a blessing. I know that I'll see that sweet ball of energy and laughter again and I cannot wait!

Crystal was a wonderful sister to MM and a loyal-to-the-end friend to me. She was one of those people that everyone wanted to be around and she was always willing to be-friend those who others wouldn't. She really made the best out of any situation and was full of mercy for people. My heart aches that she is gone, but I'm rejoicing at the same time. She lived an in-the-moment life and stayed close to those she loved. That has been the most important lesson I've learned out of all of this.

There were a lot of prayers throughout the whole situation, and I thank you all for that, but I would like to ask for a few more prayers, if I could. The funeral was beautiful and the call to salvation was made to everyone. Please pray that the seed was planted in many and that, through Crystal's death, at least one will face an eternity in heaven. Also, please pray for "Mr. Crystal", the man who has had Crystal's love since she was 14 years old. He is one of MM's dearest friends and is heart-broken. A part of me thinks he saw his future buried with her. Also, there are many people in her life that are angry and truly hurt by her death. They are questioning everything they believe. For some, that is a good thing, but for others, it is terrible, though understandable. Finally, Crystal donated 4 organs in her death. Please pray that those pieces of Crystal remain healthy and allow the recipients a long, wonderful life.

Thank you so much for reading this and letting me get this off of my chest. I know there will be days ahead when her absence will be overwhelming, but when the time comes I will reach for the comfort of my Savior and remember that we will meet again.

Random Update

It's been a while since I've posted and it'll probably be a while before I post again, but oh well. That's how I roll.

Since I posted last, we had a great trip to Round Rock/San Antonio to visit the family and celebrate my grandparents' 50th Wedding Anniversary. How awesome is that?! Part of the family's gift to them was a portrait session with all 18 of us in Gruene. I cannot WAIT to see the pics!! The talented Stephanie Briggs was our photographer. She did our wedding pics, so I know everything will be beautiful. We also had dinner at the Grist Mill, a family-wide favorite, and then headed to my grandparents' house for coffee, dessert and a lively round of "Battle of the Sexes" with the whole fam. The males thought the game was rigged or HAD to have been developed by a female, and I'm inclined to agree, but it was fun regardless.

This weekend finds me getting ready for a trip out of town for work and MM going fishing. While he's gone I get to set up our new financial software, which I really, really am excited about! (What a nerd!)

We've just been trucking along lately. Some hard decisions were made recently, the main one being that we are not going to go on the family vacation to Branson, MO. It's just not the right time of year since we'll be in Corpus Christi two weeks before. We're really bummed about it, but we know it's for the best. We don't want to give the wrong impression to our employers. We also came to the realization, after doing our income tax return, that we just make way too much money to be taking this much time to pay off our debt. Taking the Branson trip out of the budget speeds up the debt pay-down by a considerable amount and will free up more money for doing the trips almost limitless-ly in the future. My facebook status the day after we made this decision says it all; "Sometimes being a responsible adult really stinks!"

Well, that's it for now! Tonight is date night and I'm really looking forward to it. We're headed to our favorite "local" restaurant tonight and it'll be the last time for a while. We're moving on to the "beans and rice" mentality after tonight to free up more dough for debt payment.

So I'll leave you for now. Hope all is well in your world! Blessings to you and yours!

Flying By

Can you believe that it's the last weekend of January 2010?! I can't! I feel like so much time has passed and I've gotten so little done. Things have been, well, crazy.

Here's what's going on with us:

*Work, work, work. My busy season at the office seems to have started early this year. I'm usually not up to my ears in stuff until April, but it's already happened. There is so much change going on and all of that change has to be documented, trained, implemented and etc. It's going to be a team effort for our office, but we'll all be better for it afterward. It'll be one year of hard work that will result in many years of knowing we're doing everything as correctly as possible.

*Working out. I have been a work-out fiend lately. It is my calming activity every day, and sometimes two or three times a day. I work out to de-stress.

*Devotional. MM (Mountain Man) and I started working through The Ten Commandments of Marriage by Ed Young. We're doing one commandment per week on our own and then having breakfast meetings on Saturday morning to discuss the commandment. It has been eye-opening, profound and incredibly wonderful. We are closer now than we ever have been and that's saying a lot because we've always been close. It has been nice to take a good, hard look at our marriage and make sure we're making God #1.

*Ladies' Bible Study. The Ladies' Bible Study group at FBC is meeting on Monday nights and we're doing the study, Lord, Teach Me to Pray by Kay Arthur. It is the first time in quite a while that I have implemented and kept a daily devotional time and I'm loving it. My heart's desire is to thirst for the knowledge of the Word, pray constantly and fall into the presence of God every day. This study is helping me get closer to that.

*Vacation planning. MM and I are headed to Ruidoso again this spring. We cannot wait for the break and are planning on having a bit of an encouragement/planning weekend for ourselves. We'll be looking at our goals for our lives including for our marriage and financially and also talking about what our expectations are. It's going to be really good. (And I'm really looking forward to our cabin on the river, shopping and not doing any dishes and I KNOW MM is looking forward to fly-fishing a bit.)

*Plans for the future. We've got a lot going on. Things are getting done around the house, big financial goals are going to be met and we're both growing into the content adults we've always wanted to be.

Well, that's my life in a nutshell for now. We've been so busy that we're both just pooped by the weekend and want to stay far away from the computer. Things will slow down soon and I'm sure I'll get back to semi-regular posting eventually. Until then, God Bless!

Painful Sunday

So last night, in my sleep, I managed to strain a muscle in my back. It was SO painful in the middle of the night that I had to wake up Jason to have him help me move around and such. I was able to take some medicine and do a few stretches to help me get back to sleep. I was hoping that the sleep would help, but I woke up this morning in just as much pain. So, Jason ran to the church to get the sound set up and I got myself set up on the couch. This was my view, pretty much all day.

Anyhow, Jason got home from the church and proceeded to take over the tv. (Okay, okay, I gave it to him for football.) I snoozed for a bit on the couch and when I woke up, this was what my guys were up to!

Jason decided earlier this week that, due to the weather being chilly and the Cowboys playing tonight, that he would make a pot of his world-famous chilli for dinner. Well, it is world-famous to me. Thank goodness, too, because I don't know if I would have been able to cook! So, he let the chilli stew for a bit and by the time the cornbread came out of the oven, we were drooling. It was delicious. By far the best chilli he's ever made! I love a meal that was prepared 100% with our cast iron. It just tastes/feels better for some reason!

Since we had it on hand, I just finished a snack of a slice of cornbread and some creamed raspberry honey. Delicious! That's the way winter evenings should be! The only thing missing was the hot chocolate. I opted for water instead. I could sure do without the extra calories especially since I wasn't able to work out.

I'm getting ready to head to bed to browse some magazines until I fall asleep. I've decided that it's time to downsize my magazine stash, so I've been going through them to tear out articles, decor ideas and anything else that inspires me. I've already gone through a HUGE stack and I've been tackling my new magazines as they come in. Right now I'm down to 10 magazine-holders full and I really, really hope to be done by year's end. We'll see if that happens with all the Nov. and Dec. traveling I'll be doing, but I'm going to try.

Well, goodnight and God Speed!

Fun day...

Today was a great day. I slept in, woke up and had a shake for breakfast, and then putzed around on the computer for a while. Then Jason and I headed out to run our errands for the weekend. We decided to fill up his truck even though he probably wouldn't have needed gas until December anyways. I'm shocked that it's only $2.09 for gas right now. We're going to fill my car up after church. I'm sure the price will go up just in time for me to fill up for Thanksgiving travels!

While we were out and about, one of our stops was at the post office where I picked up this wonderful package from SunflowerSmiles on craftster. I'm participating in the Christmas Ornament Swap and she was one of my three partners. What she sent me is AWESOME! I got this wonderful snowman ornament that she MADE. Can you believe that? Look at the detail shot...it is flawless!

She also sent me a tiny wooden nativity ornament set. It is so adorable! I'm thinking about making a scene to attach it to permanently so that I won't ever lose any of the pieces. This little set is just too cute!

For dinner I made a pot of pinto beans. That, of course, meant frying up some salt pork in the cast iron skillet. Now, I'm no debutante, but that's how beans are made in the South!! Of course, I don't think that most Southern belles fry up the pork in the morning and cook the beans in the crock pot, but that's how I do it here.

After all the errands were done, we came home and Jason got to chopping wood and working on our fence out back. I stayed inside and got the living room and kitchen cleaned up and laundered all the window treatments. I tell you what, this is the most relaxing Saturday I've had in a while. Just the fact that I only had two rooms to clean rather than the whole house is phenomenal. I'm going to try to keep up this pattern of cleaning during the week so I have most of my weekend free.

For dinner, Jason wanted grilled fajitas and peppers and onions, so this series of pics was taken in honor of that. Here is my man hard at work and doing what he does best; drinking beer and bar-b-que'in! He would want me to point out his loyalty to the Dallas Cowboys in spite of their recent troubles. He is no fair-weather fan!

While we were outside watching the grill, the goggies were being little show-offs. They really are hams when I get the camera out! They are such stinkers. And they're hilarious. I sat down on the couch tonight and accidentally pushed a pillow onto Toby. He woke up and looked at me like, "What the heck do you think you're doing?!" Ranger just snorted and rolled over. Lazy.

I love this pic of Ranger on the move. That's how he is when he's awake; all you see is a blur. When he's asleep, though. He's like a kid after a day at Disneyland; can't wake him up for anything!

If they could talk, I think they'd deny it, but these two are inseparable. See how Ranger cozies up to Toby in spite of Toby's laser eyes? That's love.

It has been a great Saturday and lots of fun to blog about. I'm hoping that tomorrow will be just as fun and relaxing. There's not too much on my to-do list, so I think it will be.

Thanks for reading! Au revoir!
