Handmade Favorites for February 10, 2009

My apologies to all who read my blog and all who were waiting to be featured last Saturday. I attempted to install the new wireless router the hubby bought me for Valentine's Day and my entire system just crashed!! Things are better and a quick call to tech support got everything taken care of and we're now wireless throughout the house!

Anyways, February is an awesome month and I get into the mood for love every year on the first. Now, I promise I won't creep everyone out with four full weeks of Valentine's favorites. Instead, this week's theme is simply the color red (my all-time favorite color). I've found my favorite hand crafted red items for your viewing pleasure. Let's dig right in!

First is this Red Felt Rosette on a Black Elastic Headband by BrookOwens. She has several other headbands in several other colors, but the red one is my definite favorite. I caught wind of Brook's work first through Craftster and then through her blog. She is an awesome crafter. You should check out her embroidery work when you get a chance! I love the simplicity of this headband. It has a folk-art feel to it and could easily perform the duty of a timeless classic. You can tell that she is excited about and adores what she creates, so you can be sure of quality with her items!

Check out this Red Rodeo Pincushion made by Cathy at TheDailyPincushion! I'm sure you can see in this image how much attention she pays to the detail of her items. This pincushion is somehow kitschy and elegant all at the same time. I adore the cactus embellishments. I don't sew much now, but I might do it more often if I had something like this to stick my pins into!

Marie at ReeCreates makes these fabulous Sweet Bloom Coasters out of floor tiles! They are such a simple and unique item and they'd be a great addition to anyone's home. I don't know about you, but I'm tired of my basic wood coasters and would love to infuse a bit of style into my living room with these!

My current favorite scent right now is pomegranate and this Pomegranate Perfection Soap would be a wonderful addition to my seemingly endless need for bath products. What woman doesn't love lathering up with a beautifully scented, jewel-like soap? This soap can be found at AmethystSoap, along with several other beautiful items. All the soaps are made of natural materials which would definitely add to the enjoyment factor!

The Chloe Flower Brooch
is an adorable find by a fellow blogger, Kimba. I started reading her blog a while back and was immediately taken with these little brooches. They are cute and funky at the same time with a wonderful vintage feel mixed in via the sparkly bits in the middle! You can find this, and many other brooches at her Etsy store, KimbaMade. Her blog, A Soft Place To Land, is one of those invaluable online resources full of domestic inspiration.

To fulfill the seeming jewelry requirement for my handmade favorites, I didn't have to look far. What's better than silver hearts and red beads to finish of your February attire? This Charmed Hearts Bracelet created by KittyWoman is just darling! I love the various silver hearts and faceted red glass beads. This would be great for a Valentine's date, but could also be enjoyed year-round. What a cute creation!

Hubby and I are going to renew our vows in a big way on our 10th Anniversary and I'm fully convinced that red will me the color to go with. I loved my wedding, but I should have done what I really wanted and decked everyone out in red. When I get to do it again, this china pattern-inspired cake would suit the occasion to a 'T'! Kate Sullivan was the baker of this cake and she hand-painted the motif! Isn't it amazing?!
