Do you have an extra 15 minutes?

Of course you do. We could all, I'm sure, find just 15 teeny tiny extra minutes every day. I've been "Flying" for a few weeks now. It's a fun process to start, but more importantly, has injected a bit of peace and harmony into our home. My house is cleaner, my step is lighter and my heels aren't dry and cracked. (My fellow flybabies will know what that means, for the rest of you, click the link, I DARE you! Lol!) Anyhow, I've been taking it slow, following the baby steps, and spending 15 minutes a day, when I'm in town anyways, decluttering my home. Today's events are a great testimony to how great the Flylady system is.

I went grocery shopping this afternoon, which included buying groceries for feeding 3 extra mouths for 3 days. In 880 square feet, you have to fight for storage space. I unloaded the fridge and freezer groceries with no problems. The cold items all stand in neat little rows on shiny, white shelves. My little consumption enabling soldiers are always at the ready. The "pantry" is a different story. Cans, drink mixes, pastas and peanut butter in a melee on the shelves of the two cabinets they're alloted. I couldn't even fit one of the cans I had bought in there. What was happening?! Was the system breaking down?! Of course it was; I'd be the only one reasonably expected to keep control of it. I decided to make a Flylady move and set my kitchen timer for 15 minutes. That's right, it took me 15 minutes to go from the BEFORE:

to the AFTER:

It really is amazing what a person can accomplish in just 15 minutes. I even had enough time in there to empty the dish drainer! As if that weren't enough, Jason used the same system to clean up a HUGE portion of his ridiculously cluttered office/leather working room. He is going to spend just 15 minutes a night for the next few nights so that we can get it really clean for our guests this weekend. I know he'll get it all done and that we'll both breathe easier, literally and figuratively, once he's done.

I'm so glad I've ventured back into Flylady territory. I won't be unrealistic and suggest that it will work for everyone, but it works for me, and that's what matters.

Thanks for reading and blessings to you all!

P.S. I need to make sure to touch on this, and I'm sure some of you will understand. If it's to be organized, it's to be organized properly. The labels in my pantry do all face forward when I can help it. For further proof of my borderline disorder, please review the following. Bath and Body Works Antibacterial Hand Soap, in order of color density, of course, standing at the ready. My "Traveler's Drawer" in the bathroom, just in case the weary traveler needs shampoo, conditioner, body lotion or bath soap, conveniently arranged in alphabetical order. We may have issues, but at least we're honest about them! ;)

Kim, what a difference a mere 15 minutes can make. You have inspired me to visit Flylady.
